About Us - Our life with Malamutes

Meet the people behind kennel Malamazing!

We are Siw and Lasse Tetlie, living in beautiful Overhalla, Norway, together with our two children. Dogs – and especially the Alaskan Malamute – are an important part of our lives. We spend most of our free time outdoors, surrounded by nature, no matter the season.

We are passionate about an active lifestyle, and much of our spare time is spent training and working with our Malamutes. We regularly take part in sled dog activities, from short local trips to longer excursions, and we enjoy competing in working tests and sled races. For us, these dogs are not only working partners, but beloved family members who share our everyday life.

When we are not training or travelling with the dogs, we enjoy spending time with family and friends, exploring the outdoors, and giving our children the same love for nature and animals that we grew up with. Our life with Malamutes is not just a hobby – it is a way of living that connects us to the history and purpose of this incredible breed.

Why We Chose the Alaskan Malamute

For us, life with dogs is about more than companionship – it’s about partnership, purpose, and shared passion. The Alaskan Malamute embodies everything we value in a working dog: strength, endurance, independence, and a deep-rooted instinct for teamwork. That’s why this breed is at the heart of our everyday life.

We don’t just live with our Malamutes – we work with them. Training is a regular part of our routine, and we actively use our dogs for pulling both summer and winter. Whether it’s long hikes with a loaded backpack, sledding across snowy trails, or dryland training with carts and scooters, our Malamutes thrive when given a job to do.

We also train towards races and working dog tests, and we participate in local gatherings and breed-specific events to keep our dogs mentally and physically stimulated. These experiences not only strengthen our bond with the dogs, but also allow us to challenge and evaluate their working abilities in real-world settings.

Living with Malamutes means embracing a lifestyle that is demanding, rewarding, and always full of adventure. It’s not just about the destination – it’s about the journey we share with these incredible dogs.

Life, Passion & Dedication to the Alaskan Malamute

We live for adventure

Our life with Malamutes is built around outdoor activities and teamwork with our dogs. Throughout the winter, we spend countless hours training and participating in sledding trips, enjoying the bond that grows stronger with every mile. In the summer, our focus shifts to hiking, camping, and pack trips in the mountains. The Malamute is a versatile and strong working dog, and we love giving our dogs opportunities to do what they were originally bred for – pulling, carrying, and working as a team. We believe that physical activity and mental challenges are essential for a happy Malamute. By including our dogs in all aspects of our outdoor life, we create strong, well-balanced, and reliable companions who thrive both in the sled team and as family members.

Family first

For us, Malamutes are far more than just working dogs – they are an important part of our family. All our dogs live with us and share our daily lives. They are trusted companions in the mountains, loyal partners on sledding trips, and calm, affectionate friends at home. Raising our dogs in a family environment means they are social, well-adjusted, and used to being around both adults and children. We strongly believe that a Malamute that feels safe and included becomes a stable and reliable dog. By living closely with our dogs, we get to know their individual personalities, strengths, and quirks – and this knowledge helps us make the best decisions for their training, work, and breeding.

Dedicated to the Breed

We are passionate about preserving the Alaskan Malamute as it was meant to be – a strong, healthy, and functional working dog with a stable temperament and correct structure. In our breeding, we only use dogs that are health-tested, have sound temperaments, and show both working ability and correct type according to the breed standard.

Every litter is carefully planned with the future of the breed in mind. We look at pedigree combinations that complement each other, focusing on maintaining genetic diversity while improving health and working ability. For us, breeding is a responsibility – every puppy we bring into the world deserves the best possible start in life, and we follow them closely throughout their lives to ensure they thrive in their new families.

At Malamazing, we follow the ethical breeding guidelines set by both the Norwegian Alaskan Malamute Club (NAMK) and the Norwegian Kennel Club (NKK). Our breeding practices are based on transparency, health, function, and respect for the breed’s original purpose. We are committed to responsible breeding that prioritizes the well-being of the dogs and the future of the Alaskan Malamute.
